MUST UPLOAD LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION
REQUIRED:
Must possess current certification in: 1) First Aid and Safety Certificate, 2) CPR or CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certificate, 3) Lifeguard Certificate
PREFERRED:
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) preferred, but not required. One (1) year of related experience required; experience may be work in church-related schools, day camps, youth groups, private schools, community centers, or other similar experiences that would be acceptable to the District.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists in upholding and enforcing Aquatic Center rules, administration regulations, and state and local board policy and Swim America guidelines. Instructs classes in swimming, water safety, potential dangers, and the proper use of water activity equipment. Orients pool staff to special safety needs required for swimming activity equipment. Plans lesson outlines; keeps records of student progress; prepares final class records and evaluation. Prepares reports for guardians indicating the student accomplishments and future recommendations. Assures protection of pool facility and equipment, assures equipment is properly cleaned before use and that pool water is not abused. Assures supplies and equipment are available to run the class. Follows emergency and safety procedures in the pool for open water activities. Assures that all pool procedures are followed for reporting accidents and notifications. Reviews pool rules and orients students to pool requirements and procedures. Adheres to standards of professional appearance for Swim Instructors. Communicates with the public, students, parents, administrators and other pool users in a tactful, effective and professional manner. Knows and enforces all pool rules and policies. Assures that all safety codes are followed. Helps manage behavior of students. This includes intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior as needed. Assists individuals with special needs, abilities, learning levels, and physical limitations as needed. Acts properly and swiftly in the event of an incident or emergency. Uses First Aid knowledge and techniques to give emergency First Aid. Maintains physical fitness and skills through scheduled training. Participates in special events as assigned. Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties. Maintains confidentiality. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior as is expected of all District employees. Maintains professional growth by attending in-services and meetings as requested/required. Performs other related duties assigned by the Supervisor or Aquatic Center Coordinator.
