REQUIRED
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) required in English;
- Experience in working with auditory impaired students and parents, experience may be work in church-related schools, day camps, youth groups, private schools, licensed day care centers, or similar experiences that would be acceptable to the district;
- Will be required to acquire at least a Level One (1) certification in Sign Language within two (2) years of employment and document an active participation in a growth plan to achieve certification and continue employment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Acquires at least a Level One (1) certification within two (2) years of employment and documents an active participation in a growth plan to achieve certification and continue employment. Adheres to a strict code of confidentiality and ethics as set forth by the State Board for the Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI). Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administration regulations and state board policy. Interprets instruction and classroom/school discussions for students using sign language. Assists in the delivery of instruction by using a variety of techniques such as lecture, discussion and supervised role-playing. Attends support and mainstream classes with the students as an interpreter, as needed. Assists students, individually or in groups, with instructional assignments to reinforce learning concepts. Assists with the planning and preparation for instruction by acquiring appropriate materials and equipment. Assists in the supervision of the students, both inside and outside the classroom. Keeps the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students.
Assists in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom. Maintains up to date reports required by the Texas Education Agency and the Central Office and assists in the typing thereof. Interprets at in-service training programs for faculty/staff and at meetings and special events, as needed for the District. Maintains a regular filing system as directed by the principal; keeps filing system neat, orderly and up-to-date for quick retrieval of information. Prepares materials for distribution to staff members as instructed by the principal; prepares materials to be distributed with ample time. Provides orientation and assistance to substitute teachers. Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.
Maintains professional growth by attending in-services and meetings, as requested/required; and, in addition to the professional growth plan for certification. This includes but is not limited to obtaining and maintaining Crisis Prevention Intervention certification. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor/Principal.
